| After touring
the olive oil estate and press, we had a quick pasta lunch and
got on our bikes to Loro Ciuffenna where we biked along the Pratomagno
range on lovely roads lined with fig trees, vegetable gardens,
and vineyards. The view here was spectacular! |
| We then biked
along olive groves on our way to the Renaissance town of Arezzo,
home of the works of Peiro delia Francesca and the backdrop for
the film “La Vita e Bella” (Life is Beautiful). We
climbed many hills with beautiful views. It’s a good thing
we were in cycling shape before coming on this trip! Here are
a few pictures… |
| On the way to
Arezzo, we stopped at a famous bridge—where Mona Lisa
sat for her portrait. This bridge is in the back ground of her
paintings. Here I am with Dave, one of the wonderful tour guides
(who was from the US), with the bridge behind us. |
| Below is an example
of the architecture of Italy—taller buildings, very close
together. We enjoyed learning about the history of each of the
towns we passed through. Much of this area was constructed in
the 1400s. |
| Dinner was on
our own that night—and Nicole, Travis, Ross and I, along
with another great “medical couple—both nurse anesthetists”— ate
on the piazza of Arezzo where the movie “Life is Beautiful” was
filmed. Here Nicole and I sample a wonderful dessert, beautifully
arranged on the plate… |
